MacBook running SoundCaster

MacBook and WiFi configuration

  • Run your Macbook on A/C power if possible. Running on battery power can throttle your CPU and limit performance.

Wireless Router

Networking best practices

  • Configure your router to use unused WiFi channels to avoid interference. Not sure how? Check out Apple’s support article on checking for wi-fi issues on your mac or this handy article walking you through how to use Apple’s Wireless Diagnostics.
  • Use 5GHz WiFi channels for best performance. Why? There’s more non-overlapping channels at the higher frequency making it less likely you’ll experience interference from other devices.
  • Connect your MacBook via Ethernet and turn off WiFi. You can also set your MacBook networking to configure automatically. Go to System Preferences->Network->Select Ethernet (or Thunderbolt, etc.) interface->Advanced->Hardware->Configure: Automatically.
  • Don’t make MacBook WiFi/network settings changes while SoundCaster is streaming! Changes while the system is running can disrupt audio streaming to any connected devices.

iPhone Control Panel

Device configuration

  • Turn off iCloud access by disabling Find my iPhone/iPad, iCloud Drive, iCloud Backup as well as individual apps that use iCloud.. If you don’t turn this off, your device will try to connect every 5 seconds!
  • Minimize network usage by your device further by setting location services to “off”. Access location services by going to: Settings->Privacy->Location Services
  • And last, but not least, put the device in airplane mode and turn Wi-Fi back on.
